Sample USC Supplement Essay - Tips To Help Improve Your Essay
Sample USC Supplement Essay - Tips To Help Improve Your EssayThere are so many different questions you can ask in a sample USC supplement essay that it is impossible to list them all here. However, we can highlight a few tips to help make the task much easier. When writing your essay, make sure you write what you know or have an experience that you have had with someone. This will help you avoid getting sidetracked and will allow you to take a more focused approach. Some people will try to get around this tip by using a personal anecdote as a tool for their USC supplement essay. It can be a very effective method, but it is also very difficult to use. The problem is that there is no easy way to explain personal experiences. People can be very sensitive about the subject of their experiences and it can be very difficult to talk about anything that they are especially sensitive about in detail.Another way to improve your USC supplement essay is to avoid writing about what someone else di d not do for you. Everyone has experiences with others that they would like to share. However, the idea is to not focus on what others did not do for you. For example, if you are writing a college admissions essay about your childhood experiences in the United States, do not say something like this:'When I was a child I always heard my parents tell me to 'be yourself' but I didn't understand what it meant until I saw a film about a woman who had 'given up on herself' by becoming a nanny. It was when I watched this film that I understood that 'being yourself' meant that I could pursue my dreams.'In the example above, it is easy to see how your USC supplement essay would quickly devolve into a long diatribe about what someone else did not do for you. Instead, try saying something like this: 'My parents always told me to be myself but I didn't understand what it meant until I watched a film about a woman who had given up on herself by becoming a nanny. It was at this time that I unders tood that 'being myself' meant that I could pursue my dreams.Write about what you know, how it may relate to the world of college admissions and what you have experienced or observed about a particular situation. When you write about what you think others are thinking, instead of reading between the lines, you are actually taking the other person's perspective and that making the essay more difficult to write.Avoid using adverbs. Adjectives and adverbs should only be used when there is a physical element involved in the example. You do not want to confuse the reader with a long sentence that contains too many wordiness-laden phrases and you do not want to make your subject seem stupid by confusing them with you. For example, rather than saying:'Being a student in college does not mean that I have the opportunity to socialize with people who are less intelligent than I am, but rather I have the opportunity to learn from them. As a result, I am one of the lucky ones because I have the opportunity to obtain a higher education. After I graduated, I continued my education by attending graduate school and obtaining my Ph.D. The rest is history.'
